Funding and eligibility
UK EV Charging Grants
Last reviewed: 26 September 2026
Start with your parking and property situation. These are separate schemes with different conditions; a charger grant does not replace property or highway permission.
Which home grant should you check?
- You rent, or own and live in a flat, with private off-street parking: check the renters and flat owners eligibility rules.
- You only have on-street parking: check the households with on-street parking grant and your council's permanent-channel policy.
- You own a house with a driveway: do not assume these household grants apply. Check your circumstances against the official scheme list.
The household schemes offer up to 75% of eligible chargepoint costs, capped at £500. That is a contribution: £500 of eligible cost produces a £375 grant, not a fully funded installation. The current portfolio is listed as available until 31 March 2027; check the scheme's conditions and deadlines before committing.
Get the sequence right
For renters and flat owners, get the authorised installer's quote and required permissions before applying. Wait for approval before installation; the installer submits the claim after completing the work. See the application sequence and help contacts. We do not promise a fixed processing time.
If your cable needs to cross the pavement
Check the council permission guide before selecting a channel. Ask separately about channel costs, highway works, permits and local funding. Permission does not reserve a public parking space.
Workplaces, landlords and other situations
Business, workplace and landlord grants have their own eligibility and application rules. Use the GOV.UK scheme directory; the detailed guides here focus on household charging.
Already installed, waiting for consent, or replacing stolen equipment? The guides below explain the relevant questions. Figures are dated information, not an award or guarantee of eligibility. See our editorial standards.
