GLO or the screen-equipped zappi?
GLO is a separate model from the screen-equipped zappi. Its narrow, screenless enclosure puts most settings in the app, with a status light and RFID for local interaction. The choice is therefore partly about how you want to use the charger: phone-led controls or a display at the wall. See the official GLO page.
Tethered and socketed options
Both UK order codes are listed in the current data sheet. The tethered version includes a 6.5 m lead; the socketed version uses a separate charging cable. Both are variants of the GLO family.
Check the lead route with the vehicle in its usual parking position. Include enough slack for the inlet location and avoid a route across a walkway. For the socketed model, budget for a suitable cable as well as the charging unit.
Solar and household energy
GLO is designed to participate in myenergi’s home-energy system, but panels are not a prerequisite for grid charging. Solar performance depends on the generation available after household demand, sensing positions and configuration. An existing battery, eddi or other monitoring equipment should be included in the installer’s brief.
The charger rating is not a guarantee of energy delivered to the battery. The vehicle, circuit and configured supply limit can all reduce the charging rate. A departure target still needs enough available time and energy.
RFID, connectivity and offline use
The access reader is for supported cards, not contactless bank-card payments. The manufacturer’s technical file confirms that charging can continue without internet access using local controls and authenticated RFID; internet loss should not be confused with loss of all charging capability. Remote account functions and updates still require a working connection. Technical file.
GLO’s OCPP connection is provided through myenergi’s backend. If a particular management provider is essential, confirm the supported arrangement and any service charges before buying. It should not be specified as a standalone local OCPP endpoint.
Installation and price scope
Have a qualified installer design the dedicated circuit and monitoring setup. Built-in detection and a protected enclosure do not remove the need to assess the property’s supply and upstream protection.
Our comparison uses the tethered UK part number only. It excludes installation and does not mix in the lower-priced socketed model. Recheck the seller’s current total and delivery terms before ordering.
Warranty and further reading
myenergi’s support guidance describes its standard three-year warranty and automatic server-based activation. Retain your invoice and installation records, and read the current warranty terms before purchase.
