Model and cable variants
The ePod is Ohme’s untethered home charger. It has a Type 2 socket instead of a permanently attached vehicle cable. A separate lead must suit the vehicle: Type 2 to Type 2 for a Type 2 inlet, or an appropriate Type 2 to Type 1 lead for a Type 1 inlet. Ohme lists optional 5 m and 8 m cables. The charger rating remains 7.4 kW.
The UK installation guide identifies OHMEX1GB003-BL and EP0-07GB-WB-BLSTD-01. Confirm the supplied hardware and connectivity; a model-family name alone does not establish the radio fitted. UK installation guide, cover.
Connectivity and everyday operation
Ohme’s UK product page advertises the cellular version. Its mobile connection avoids dependence on household Wi-Fi, but still needs usable mobile coverage at the mounting position. The installation guide also includes a separate UK Wi-Fi/Bluetooth variant; those features should not be assumed on every ePod. The data sheet covers SIM costs for the first three years, without establishing a subsequent subscription price. Confirm ongoing connectivity terms before ordering. Product page; data sheet; installation guide.
The app supports charging targets and departure times. Battery-percentage information depends on the vehicle connection: where Ohme cannot retrieve battery status, the app works with the amount of charge to add. That distinction matters when setting a target. Ohme charging controls.
Ohme says an offline charger can fall back to Max Charge at plug-in. This is not the same as connected, tariff-managed charging; do not assume an offline session qualifies for a smart discount. Ohme offline behaviour.
Tariffs and charging controls
Intelligent Octopus Go has a documented Ohme-account integration. The charger needs to be online for smart charging, and Octopus bills the electricity. Account eligibility, settings and tariff terms still apply; this page does not promise a particular electricity rate. Octopus setup and billing guidance.
Timed tariffs can use Ohme’s tariff details and Price Cap controls, but ordinary off-peak scheduling is different from direct integration with a supplier. A restrictive price cap can limit the energy delivered before departure. Ohme Price Cap guidance.
Access controls include approval for each plug-in and disabling the local buttons. These control charging access; they are not a claim of physical cable-theft protection. Ohme security settings.
Solar charging and home load
Solar operation depends on eligible hardware, a working CT clamp and an online charger. Ohme describes eligibility for most complete installations from January 2023 onwards. Solar Boost can supplement solar with grid energy; Solar Only depends on the options available to the individual unit and firmware. Home-battery discharge can also supply the charger, because Ohme cannot distinguish that energy from other household generation. Solar eligibility and modes.
Dynamic load balancing reduces EV charging when household demand approaches the configured limit. The car’s own AC charging limit can also reduce actual power below the charger’s maximum. Ohme load-balancing explanation.
Installation and documentation
Built-in PEN detection and DC residual-current detection do not replace the installer’s assessment of the supply, earthing and upstream protection. The guide specifies a separate overcurrent device and discusses upstream RCD requirements. Use the manual for the exact hardware supplied. Installation guide.
The listed standards and UKCA marking are manufacturer declarations, not independent testing by this site. The data sheet references EN 61851-1, IEC 62955, IEC 62196-1 and EMC standards EN IEC 61000-6-3 and EN IEC 61000-6-1; the linked PDF gives the editions. Historic grant labels in a data sheet do not establish current grant eligibility. Data sheet; smart-charge-point declaration.
